today’s lecture was one of the interesting lectures of my second semester! The lecture was about decoding the advert of a perfume and how the brands have used that as story to attract their consumers, also what inspiration were used for the adverts. Most of us think that, wow! what an advert! but the truth is most of the adverts have a inspiration for the advert which they are designing! Most of them also have cultural and social referencing. for example the obvious example here i can state would be Nina Ricci La Tentation. There is a slight reference to little red riding hood!
I have the assignment coming up before my easter break in which I’ve to choose an advert from a clothing which is about a perfume and analyze it and objectively debate does that work with the brand image or not.. There are many clothing brands who have launched fragrances, so to start analyzing i’ve shortlisted some of the brands for the same, and the prospective brands which I will see before taking up any of them to write essay on are Dolce and Gabbana, DKNY, Chanel, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs. I believe Tom Ford adverts would be very interesting to work on because some of them are quite controversial and provocative! lot to talk about analyze if it works with the brand image or not!
